“We move through the world constantly, and almost never notice it. The swing of an arm, the turn of the wrist, the small shifts of weight that carry us through a day; these are so habitual they become invisible to us. Kinesis is built around the idea that jewellery can interrupt that visibility. When a piece responds to the body’s own movement, it gives that movement back to the wearer as something felt and seen, a quiet reminder that to wear it is to move, and to move is to exist. The necklace, bracelet, and ring are made from telescopic and articulated hinge mechanisms using precision cut brass tubes, domed and tapered to nest inside one another, extending and contracting as the wrist moves. The earrings are domed tubes with sliding tracks, allowing for movement with the tip of the head. Worn close to the skin, each gesture is felt as much as seen. The body and the piece are not separate; they complete each other.

My name is Zikra Rizvi, studying Material Arts and Design undergraduate program at OCAD University. I studied in the special series visual arts program during high school, which led to my fascination with sculpture and material arts. I’ve mostly focused my studies on jewelry making and fabrication. The most prominent figures I find in my art are related to parts of the body or animals, things I’m drawn to, so as I go forward in my studies, and look to a future career or residency, my main outlook is to create wearable pieces that draw the wearer closer to nature and themselves by connecting to aspects of their lives they are drawn to most.
