Drawing & Painting

“My work navigates the intersection of gender, sexuality, objectification, and personal trauma, often manifesting through surreal hyper-sexualized and sometimes distorted imagery of the female form. My body of work is a visual exploration of oppression and resistance, drawing from feminist art history, queer theory, and personal narratives. Through my work, I seek to challenge the objectification of women’s bodies, express my innermost desires, and celebrate the resilience and beauty of sapphic love.

I’m Milook Ali, a multimedia artist from Iraq. I’m a member of the LGBTQ+ and come from a Muslim background. I take inspiration from anime, horror, my personal upbringing, etc. I originally wanted to be an animator growing up but honestly I prefer making cool paintings. My process is deeply tactile, beginning with watercolors, ink, and chalk pastel to create individual elements of a larger composition. These pieces are then photographed, digitally manipulated, and collaged together to form a montage of sorts. This layering process not only allows for visual complexity but also serves as a metaphor for the fragmented and multifaceted nature of my identity.
