“My work explores the intangible binary systems presented in the modern age, and examines notions such as stagnation, memory, and lived experience. The Colour of Dead Water explores the interstitial space that exists between stillness and stagnation, and attempts to reconcile these two antithetical ideas by examining both the literal definitions of them (using natural phenomena as a foundation), as well as investigating the philosophical approaches and ideologies they represent. Through experimental and gestural approaches to intaglio, my work aims to recontextualize our understanding of these concepts and learn to move away from a binary way of thinking. In my research and the development of this body of work, I have been embracing the repetition, labour, and uniformity inherent in printmaking, while simultaneously leaving space for variance, change, and the surrender of rigidity and control. In a modern, production-focused world, it is essential to learn to be at peace with stillness, and to recognize that motion and change still persist - even in stagnant water - though it may just lie a little deeper beneath the surface.”

Connor Larkin is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist whose practice includes drawing, illustration, painting, and sculpture. His main focus, however, lies in printmaking, specializing in intaglio (copperplate etching). Through investigating traditional printmaking conventions, he attempts to innovate and reinvent his approach to print, and to art making as a whole. He has participated in exhibitions in Ottawa and Toronto, and has been a contributor for academic texts, both through writing and research, and through artistic contributions.
