“Afterimage explores the relationship between memory loss and transitional spaces, using fleeting images taken in transit to reflect how memories slip, fade, and blur over time. Situated within the interior of the car peering outwards, the passing world is a metaphor for the intangible nature of memory. Protected by glass, the outside world is unreachable, obscured by movement, artificial lights, and darkness. Moments blend into one another before they can be fully grasped. These works do not capture whole memories; they embody the fluid experience of what remains in my mind: distorted forms, exaggerated light, and uncertain locations. They are afterimages of moments I can no longer access. From the passenger seat of my car, I spontaneously photograph the passing world with a digital camera, using these images to inform my work. Each piece references a specific image that is tied to a time, place, and memory. Through painting and printmaking, vague memories are transformed into tangible objects, preserving moments that would otherwise be lost to an unreliable memory. Afterimage is the act of holding onto the residue of experience, the hazy impressions, the fading lights, and the empty spaces, before they vanish altogether. ”
