I was born and lived my early childhood in Algeria. Coming from a mixed Amazigh (North African indigenous) background I was exposed to traditional arts, distinct craftsmanship and music in my daily life. Ever since an early age I found myself connected, drawn, and fascinated by the traditions that I was embedded in. A big part of this artistic exposure was my mom. After having immigrated to Canada I had a difficult time with adapting. During this time, I found myself isolated from both cultures. In efforts to finding my place to fit in, I started to express myself through art. Being guided by my art teacher in High school, it further developed my relationship with self expression. I then found my way to OCADu. My years at university I explored and ventured with different mediums, themes, and ideas. Not being limited to drawing and painting. I was exposed to photography, film and textiles which has shaped my practice today. Over the last few years, I have dedicated myself to further express my connection with my roots and to be able to tell stories through my art practice. I am continuously learning and uncovering. My recent work contains themes of folklore stories, ancestry, self identity and Immigration.
