Emilia Nahdee is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and educator. In her work she often considers Anishinaabe pedagogies, epistemologies and ontologies in relation to material research, site based narratives, contemporary art, and the public presence of Indigenous art and design. Nahdee’s lens based practice utilizes historical and contemporary methods to explore themes of relationality as well as land and body sovereignty. Often using experimental processes, Nahdee incorporates photographic objects and personal effects into her expanded painting and stitching practice. Emilia Nahdee is of Shawnee Anishinaabe (Walpole Island First Nation, Bkejwanong Unceded Territory) and Portuguese descent. Emilia carries her teachings within her Native languages, Anishinaabe governance, and an interdisciplinary approach to creation and collaboration as the foundations of her art, design, and curatorial praxis.
