Acrylic and Oil painting / Material Explorations

“My work explores the intricate relationship between movement, energy, and the human body. I've always been captivated by the body's aesthetics—its anatomy, its physiognomy—but it’s the way it physically expresses emotion through dance that truly inspires me. Through the deconstruction of the figure into simplified, gestural forms, I strive to capture the essence of dance, emphasizing a moment of ardency that speaks to our ability to communicate, to feel, and to express ourselves, even in the stillness of a painting.”

Ellena Sardo is a GTA-based artist specializing in oil and acrylic painting, with a focus on figurative realism and abstraction. Her work is distinguished by a vibrant use of colour, particularly in her signature Ardency Series which explore the emotional and energetic dimensions of the human form.A graduate of OCAD University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Minor in Material Art and Design, Sardo brings a multidisciplinary approach to her artist identity. In addition to painting, she explores the relationship between the body and art through jewelry and body adornment. Her parallel practice in silversmithing and wearable art utilizes found materials to create one-of-a-kind pieces that blur the line between sculpture and ornamentation.
