“My thesis body of work highlights four scenes in a day from my adolescence, exploring ideas around spirituality, religion, race, culture, and gender. The oil paintings and scenes are informed by the everyday but illuminated and conceptualized through surrealist and fantastical painting effects, merging childhood, teenagehood, specific memories/moments, and critical reflection. A representation of nostalgia that examines itself with consideration of the past, present, and future.”
Brandon Baghaee (b.2002) is an artist living and working in Toronto. He has participated in group exhibitions such as The Archive of Merit: From OSA to OCAD and has had a solo show at The Drake Hotel. He also did a project for Scotiabank Arena and Sports and the Arts, painting portraits for the Raptors, Leafs, and LIVE, a project for the City of Toronto painting, five portraits for Black History Month, and public art for STEPS Public Art. He plans on continuing to evolve his practice by exploring memory and his bi-racial background, and creating narratives and story-telling in his work through these memories. He has also given artist talks, visiting his old high school to speak to the Grade 12 AP Visual Arts Class and speaking at the Young Voices 2022 Magazine launch.
