Jinming Li is a contemporary jewellery designer and interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto. Through the various creative backgrounds that he has developed over time, jewellery design and digital art are two of his primary practices; for the artist himself, these two art forms supplement each other. Jinming often forms jewellery designs through 3D modelling where the idea first takes form from the figurative scenes expressed in 2D. The concept is then integrated and expanded into jewellery and materiality in 3D form. The whole creative process can be seen as a transition from nothing to virtual images and eventually an entitative form. Recently, Jinming has been exploring architectural structures and integration with jewellery forms to create wearable architectural jewellery. He has been leveraging 3D modelling to pursue connections between architecture, human bodies, and jewellery objects. During the subsequent creation process, He aims to balance the attributes of the 3D modelling with handcraft to preserve the detail of hand craftsmanship as the piece takes shape.
