“My BFA thesis project "Jester's Privilege" examines the shifting boundaries between internet content and contemporary art. Drawing from imagery found on message boards and social media, the project recreates and recontextualizes digital artifacts that defy easy categorization. Through this work, I invite viewers to reconsider how we define art in the age of endless circulation and digital ephemera, and whether new forms of visual culture demand new ways of seeing and valuing creative expression.”

Fionn McDonnell is an emerging Irish-Canadian lens-based artist finishing his BFA in Photography at OCAD University. Through cataloging and recreating digital artifacts, he encourages viewers to reconsider how they categorize images in the digital age. Drawing from his experience with the internet as a constant presence during his childhood, Fionn utilizes absurdist humor and uncanny visuals to make artwork that exposes outsiders to an aspect of digital culture that they may not have been aware of, and uses that exposure to highlight differences between generations.
