“The Glow of Effort is a collection of five pieces that celebrate the efforts and struggles that the people in my life have experienced. Lately, I have been trying to acknowledge and celebrate the amount of effort I put into my life, how far I have come, and how proud I am of myself. This made me realize that most people never take a minute to thank themselves for all the struggle and hardship they go through. This inspired me to create personalized jewellery for my family, honouring their efforts and everything they have done for the people they love. I think this idea is worth investigating and expanding on, since it builds a deeper appreciation for the jewellery we wear, but also builds self-love and increases the motivation to keep going and keep putting more effort into everyday life. This thesis project is very much centered on feelings. I created five pieces that are personalized to each of the wearers, highlighting and celebrating each person’s struggles and achievements. This project is incredibly meaningful to my future and my practice, because it made me focus on what jewellery means to me, and the power I have to communicate with each wearer, making them feel different things. This collection has inspired me to make similar pieces in the future, to not just make something based on the instructions I'm given from future clients, but to really get to know the wearer and to connect with them, including a part of them in the final piece. ”

My name is Kiki, and I am a jewellery artist born in Italy to an Egyptian family, currently based in Canada. My practice is deeply shaped by my experience of moving between cultures and navigating a sense of not fully belonging. Growing up in Italy with Egyptian roots, I often felt caught between identities. That feeling followed me when I moved to Canada in 2018, where I once again had to redefine my place and sense of self.Art became a way for me to process these experiences. It offered me a language when words felt insufficient, and a space where I could explore identity, emotion, and connection. Through this process, I discovered jewellery as my primary medium since it felt like a form that was both intimate and powerful. Jewellery exists close to the body, making it uniquely capable of carrying personal meaning, memory, and emotion. My work focuses on emotional storytelling, connection, and the unseen experiences people carry. I am particularly interested in how jewellery can act as a quiet form of support, something that reassures the wearer, holds their story, and reminds them of their strength. This perspective is central to my thesis project, The Glow of Effort, where I have created personalized pieces that honour the struggles, resilience, and efforts of individuals in my life. Each piece becomes a reflection of lived experience, transforming jewellery into a symbol of recognition and self-appreciation.Through my practice, I aim to move beyond surface-level design and instead create work that is deeply relational. I want to understand the people I design for, translating their emotions and stories into wearable forms. My goal is to create jewellery that helps individuals feel seen, valued, and grounded, especially those who, like me, have experienced moments of feeling like they do not belong.Ultimately, I hope my work encourages people to embrace their individuality, acknowledge their personal journeys, and wear their experiences with pride.
