“A Still Life, is a body of working that questions how people can be represented through the objects they surround themselves and the place in which they situate. Drawings and oil paint on canvas, reflect moments and memories of my life at home and of my past travels. Driven by my interest to form narratives, I create work in series depicting commonplace objects suggestive of people’s habits. Other paintings, place importance on locations and their modest urban architecture which feed my fixation in the ordinary. The COVID-19 Pandemic has changed the way I analyze my own space, the objects I collect and my routines. I play with the line of abstraction and representation using expressive brushwork, thick applications of paint and allowing my acrylic underpainting to converse with my oil paint. My research includes the psychology behind travel, the archiving and collecting of objects, symbolism in art and the still-life of Henri Matisse and Giorgio Morandi.”
