“Providing a space for the creativity and childhood innocence from my five siblings allows me to focus on observations within blended families to understand the dynamics of sibling relationships.Through a collaborative process, taking into consideration the individuality of each sibling, I am using my role as the oldest and artist to create connections by the use of familiar and accessible materials. My goal is to honor my siblings’ ways of thinking, processing and creating and to document a moment of our lives that connect us together regardless of being in a blended family. ”

Patricia Mingala is a Multi-disciplinary Toronto based artist focussing on themes of identity within her family and Colombian/Filipino culture. In 2025, Mingala graduated OCAD University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting. Mingala has done a commissioned mural at Bathurst and Lawrence walk in clinic in Toronto, which created a welcoming environment for patients in 2020.Mingala approaches her art practice with a foundation of experimenting and incorporating mixed media and collage techniques. She finds this important as she ties the use of non-traditional material to her childhood and present observations in her life. Part of commercial galleries within Toronto, Colombia and Philippines is something Mingala looks forward to as she continues her art career.
