Sculpture and Installation

“Through the interwoven relationship of temporality (life) and permanence (death), my work is an examination of time, space, and place of being relating to the mindfulness of the body and mortality in the contemporary moment, investigating the positive and negative interactions of the fully integrated human being, advocating for mindfulness and the appreciation of life. My research investigates the human being’s disengagement with life, authenticity, and meaning through the lens of abject theory, embodiment and metaphor, posing that the confrontation and contemplation with mortality is the essential pathway to the refinement of the self. ”

Andrew Kostjuk is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist specializing in static and kinetic, interactive sculpture and installation of an industrial-organic hybrid aesthetic. Utilizing industrial material as a medium for producing artwork through special effects make-up, performance and mould making. Andrew’s research examines the endurance of human beings. It explores the dichotomy between the utopian and dystopian spheres of human nature, focusing on the question of being and arguing aggressively for an active and more immanent model of being that has been lost. Challenging one to the perpetual state of feeling and being alive through constant contemplation and confrontation with the unknown.
