Environmental Design
“Design is more than the creation of spaces, it is the shaping of experiences, movement, and connection. My approach is rooted in the belief that a successful design should respond to the way people live, move and interact, while also strengthening the relationship between the built environment and nature. I am drawn to projects that transform everyday spaces into places that feel engaging, inclusive and meaningful. Through my thesis work, I explored how streets can become landscapes, where transit, public life and ecology can exist together as one continuous system. This reflects my broader design philosophy, to create environments that are functional yet expressive, structured yet fluid, and practical yet human-centred. I approach each project with curiosity, attention to detail, and a strong interest in sustainability, adaptability and the long-term impact a design can have on both people and place. ”

I am Salma Coovadia, a graduating student of OCAD University's Environmental Design program. Through my studies, I have developed a strong interest in landscape architecture and sustainable design practices. My work is rooted in the idea that thoughtful design should strengthen the relationship between people and the natural world. I am especially drawn to creating human-centred spaces that support well-being, connection and everyday experiences. I enjoy designing spaces that balance beauty, function and environmental responsibility. My approach is guided by care and the commitment to create places that feel meaningful and lasting.
