I’m Claire Ross, a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for storytelling and animation. With a background in painting and drawing, I began exploring animation in 2022 in a first-year drawing class at OCAD U. I fell in love with the magic of bringing drawings to life through animation, and I haven’t looked back. I started with short 2D hand-drawn clips, then slowly started exploring incorporating the more traditional elements I was used to from drawing and painting, into my animations. I love working with my hands, and have picked up many crafts and hobbies over the years such as bookbinding, knitting, photography, and wireworking. My practise as a multidisciplinary artist explores how physical mediums can be incorporated into animation and tell a linear story, often allowing me to combine my various craft interests with animation. I focus on how to blend tactile creations with digital editing, while still preserving the textures and qualities of the physical assets. Story wise, I find myself mainly focused on exploring the uses of enchantment, and how fantasy and whimsy can bring light to an otherwise dark story. I try to find as much whimsy in the world as possible, and incorporate it into my stories.
