Egg Tempera Painting

“The word antiquated means “outmoded or discredited by reason of age : old and no longer useful, popular, or accepted” (Definition of ANTIQUATED, Merriam Webster) and I think that is the perfect word to use in junction with my work and I. Egg has been used as a binder for at least 3200 years, being most popular during the mid-renaissance of 1400-1450. So why use it? Egg tempera is a sustainable and eco-friendly medium, a medium which reflects my personality: meticulous and hands-on with a strange fascination with the vintage and antique. Since my body of work is comprised of self-portraits I think it’s important to use a medium that reflects the subject matter, my work is full of personality, why should the paint be an exception? Now where did I put that side of egg…?

Isis Carey is an absurdist artist currently focused on the taming of egg tempera. The creation of her work is adeeply involved, hands-on process, as she constructs her work from the ground up, bringing old schooltechniques into the contemporary space; inside each of her pieces is a self-portrait regardless of whather viewer sees…And what you see is a small peak into her ADHD riddled mind… Can you dig it?
