“After a 25-year-career as a Communications Consultant, I am furthering my proclivity for expression by creating large, colourful, abstracted paintings of Canadian and Guyanese landscapes to manifest my Indo-Guyanese and Canadian heritages. My paintings are embedded with political and metaphysical explorations of identity, ancestral history, and temporality.”

Supriya James is a Toronto-based contemporary landscape artist of Indo-Guyanese and Canadian heritages. After a successful career as a Communications Consultant, with over 25 years of working in public relations, government, politics and the news media, she continues to further her proclivity for expression via this most recent undergraduate degree - BFA Hon, Drawing & Painting Program (OCAD University). Her body of work comprises paintings of Canadian and Guyanese landscapes with visual imagery embedded with political and metaphysical explorations of identity, ancestral history, and temporality that have formed her core consciousness. Her emotive artworks are inspired by her own digital photography and implement both Western art tools and cross-disciplinary mark-making materials such as, ground turmeric, willow charcoal, oil and chalk pastel sticks - all reflecting her hybrid cultural identity and to connect the viewer to the natural environment's immediate need of stewardship.A recipient of the 2025 OCAD U Career Launchers Award and the 2025 Dean's Scholarship, Supriya is pursuing an Interdisciplinary Master's in Art, Media, and Design MFA program at OCAD University in September, 2025.
