“When the body encompasses everything, it must eat itself. Images circulate through the body; they perpetuate it only to be consumed.Images are our reproductions, our static children, do we give birth to them just to feed the cannibal?Condé Nast pumps the body full of parasites; its images make the body even hungrier. It shows us the scrumptious body of luxury laid out on a convenient and beautiful plate. But behind the fowl intentions of the cannibal lies material truth, the closed Vogue Magazine is a volume of people in close proximity, the figures of Vogue embrace each other when we are not looking. There is great potential in the image for unity, fluidity, and aura when you look through the divisions of the page. The image does not belong to corporations, it is simply spoken in their language, and to begin to speak it in our own language it must first be dis-integrated. ”

Darah Galbraith (b. 2004, Hamilton) is a transdisciplinary artist working in Toronto, Ontario. Working with drawing, digital compositing, sculpture, and installation she explores the role that art and the image play in both perpetuating and challenging the aesthetic regime of capitalism and colonialism. Through amalgamating vast collections of images into single, measured and divided objects she invites the viewer to peer beyond the image and into its systems and insufficiencies.
