““Lavender Menace” depicts how Lesbians and Lesbian identity have been fetishized, sexualized and de-legitimized within popular culture and society. This collection of works imagines a world free of these complications of the male gaze through the style of Art Nouveau.”

Hi! I'm Megan Ranieri (they/them), an artist, illustrator and printmaker based in Toronto, Ontario. With my work, I pull from my own experiences as a non-binary lesbian as well as queer history to expand the breadth of my work. I love hiding little nuggets in my work and adding symbolism and meaning through visual means to enhance the message. I also love to create work based on media I love and has a special place in my heart! When I started making art as a kid, my favourite things were always a source of inspiration and that continues to inform my work to this day :)I mostly use the digital medium for my illustrative work, but like to dabble in traditional media like acrylic and gouache depending on the mood of the piece. Printmaking is also a huge part of my practice and allows me to transform my digital illustrations into tangible prints and wearables which is pretty neat!
