Painting, collage, mixed media

““will all this leave a stain?” is a three-part mixed-media series that explores the grotesque and seductive culture of consumerism. The work acts as an archive of consumer culture as it exists in the 25th year of the 21st century. I emphasize how worthless all our accumulated purchases, items, goods, and objects actually are, and how little they satisfy us. The series encourages viewers to reflect on their reliance on consumer culture and provides a framework to imagine something new. What if we let go of the mythology that consumption is a neutral act? That this is fulfilling? What if we imagined something more, something kinder?”

Cindy Soler (b. 1999, Bogota) is a collage artist and acrylic painter based in Toronto. Her practice explores the malleability and flexibility of our shared reality and the many ways we can shape and complicate it. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from OCAD University with a focus in Painting. She previously studied fine art at Humber College and York University. Her work has been exhibited at The Tranzac, Nielson Park Creative Centre and Northern Contemporary Gallery. Using eclectic colours and images, I create alternative realities that invite audiences to reimagine and reconsider the world they live in. Using acrylic paint and collage, I explore themes related to modernity, globalization and perception. Throughout my work, I embrace the absurdity of the modern digital age and the difficult and ridiculous happenings of everyday life. I look at art with an eccentricity that reveals the deeper relationship between artist and viewer.
