Printmaking
“I like to leverage the unique characteristics of printmaking, especially working with multiples and the accessibility of the medium. In current projects, I juxtapose plant illustrations from the first secular books printed in Europe in the 1500s with my own photos of similar plants. I am exploring how this contrast between old and modern plant images captures the timeless, mysterious and often ambiguous relationships between plants and humans. And, in spring 2023, I enjoyed drawing some simple domestic scenes when looking for a subject matter for my etching studies. ”
Nandy Heule is a multimedia artist and writer now based in Toronto but moving to Ottawa, Ontario, in spring 2023. She fell head-over-heels in love (and ink!) with etching in her last year at OCADU. That’s after hanging out at the university for what seems like forever, in a good way, while working a day job for most of that time. Nandy grew up in the Netherlands and emigrated to Canada in her late-twenties. Big hugs for Paula Heule-Eenhoorn, my life-long cheerleader and occasional art patron.
