aka. Micketty,
“Breathing Room is the culmination of two years’ research into textile-based means of ‘sensing’ through electronics. I seek to find accurate and expressive means of translating my experiences with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder, deriving imagery from dreams, films, intuition and memory and rendering them concretely in physical space. Breathing Room discusses relational attachment, boundaries, exhibitionism, and the tenuous quality of feeling both alienated and lonely while wanting to be left alone. Using custom-made switches hidden in the fur above, the piece responds to sensed activity through the strings of beads below to convey these intangible notions with an empathetic physical form. ”
