Ankisetty

Curator, Critic, Artist

“My artistic practice is focused on exploring absurdity and control through a conceptual lens. Through placing irrational restraints on the body, my work highlights the body’s inclination to find areas of flexibility within the restrictions. My writing practice uses language as a material medium to delve into unrestrained thought. My overall creative practice is currently rooted in rejecting the rigidity of expectations and controls to lean into a more intuitive, humorous and genuine way of functioning within the creative spheres.”

Nina Ankisetty is a curator, critic, and artist working in Tkaronto (Toronto), Ontario. She is graduating from OCAD University in 2024 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Criticism and Curatorial Practice. Nina has curated exhibitions in Toronto, as well as shown her work in group exhibitions. Her art practice is informed by the conceptual art tendency of the 1960s and explores systems such as text and language and how they intersect with the self. Nina has worked abroad at Elektrohalle Rhomberg Gallery (Salzburg, Austria) and locally, currently working at Onsite Gallery and Patel Brown Gallery. After graduating, she will be interning at Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery in Salzburg. When she is not at home, she is at the grocery store using all her funds to buy flour. When she is at home, she is using all the flour to bake tons of yummies. This baking is often interrupted by her needing to run to her balcony and shoo away pigeons. Don’t be mistaken, Nina loves animals, but not animal feces on her balcony.
