“Collecting is something intuitive, one cannot help but to be inclined to collect something, whether tangible or not. This is a representation of both a physical collection, but also a collection of memories and the emotions tied to them. These readymade and hand-made objects are an investigation into the discomfort that comes with the consciousness in existence. Each day, a person has various roles to play, a concept of performance is referenced by Shakespeare in As You Like It “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players…”. Each performance given is somehow obstructing some aspect of the inner self, similarly to a mask or makeup. This nature of hiding behind aspects of the self is why I have an interest in clowns. The clown often portrays some other profession, whether that be a policeman, fireman, etc., but underneath the additional costuming for that performance, the clown remains a clown. In the day-to-day, someone may play some sort of role in one’s life, but they are a separate individual who does not exist solely for a narrative purpose. ”
