““I Don’t Eat Balut” explores the experience of young women in the Filipino diaspora through a subversive reimagining of the magical girl genre that combines cultural imagery with body horror.”

Chloe Fuerte is a Filipino-Canadian animator and illustrator based in the Durham Region. She specializes in 2D animation and illustration with a passion for layout and character design. Her work is deeply inspired by the juxtaposition between cute and playful versus the macabre. She enjoys creating bright and expressive characters and surreal, dream-like environments to tell stories about girlhood, nostalgia and the horrors that persist. In addition to her thesis film Chloe has previously directed her own animated short titled Devil’s Regional Transit (2024) and worked as a 2D animator for the animated short Deadstock (2026). She is currently developing a web comic about 2010s mall culture. Chloe is in the process of completing a BFA in Drawing and Painting & Expanded Animation at OCADU and is set to graduate in 2026.
