Experimental Animation
“Sara Khalil-Bayley enjoys telling stories in a way that blurs the boundaries of the real and fictional worlds. With her focus on extraordinary events happening in ordinary cities, diverse character designs drawing inspiration from day-to-day fashion, and hybrid media approaches combining live footage and animation, she explores her own and her audience's relationship with the pop culture that surrounds us—which she believes makes up a fundamental part of who people are.”
Sara Khalil-Bayley is a Toronto-based animatrix (female animator, as coined by Heidi Guedel). Currently in her final year at OCAD University, she is majoring in Experimental Animation with a minor in Creative Writing. She likes cartoons, sea creatures, and the color pink. She finds that her favorite shows always kept her good company growing up, and now she wants to create characters that keep others good company, too. She specializes in a unique style of vector animation that she creates entirely in Adobe Illustrator. In the past year, she participated at TAAFI as a student ambassador for OCAD, and has most recently worked as an animation revisionist for Nick Jr.'s newest preschool show, Bossy Bear.
