“My work explores the Canadian imaginary and its intersection with my personal and family history, both of which are stories of confrontation with Nature and the North, immigration and colonization, self and place. By reinterpreting historical weaving patterns and incorporating them into textile landscapes that evoke both urban and natural worlds, the project deconstructs artistic responses to the ‘Great Wild North’ in favour of a more personal, urban, and materials-based story. Local and invasive materials are brought together into a textile-focused craft-based response to historical landscape painting and the mythos of the North. ”
I am a mixed media installation artist with a focus on woven and felted textiles. My work wrestles to respond with beauty to difficult histories.
