“As an immigrant myself, I always had tension between two cultures and sometimes had a feeling of disconnection even when I was physically part of the social group. Instead of trying hard to fit myself in, I decided to take my current state of emotion and situation. In my work, emotion and bi-culturalism are explored together to give an 'out of place' perspective. Korean-featured images merged with Western-style figurative paintings portraying familiar yet unfamiliar images. The outshined Korean identity conveys a feeling of disconnection and a sense of alienation. ”
