““Dust Covered Floorboards” is a stylized virtual reality experience in Unity that reminiscences on my own travels as it relates to the pandemic. The main inspiration for this project stems from my memories of how things used to be: how we didn’t need to think about endangering the lives of others simply by being together, how close we used to stand when we didn’t need to think about infecting one another. As I currently work in a setting that sees the first-hand effects on the health of the population, I really wanted to be able to think through the implications of these restrictions and how they benefit those who are not able to simply return to normal. The bistro was chosen as a representation of the business side of restrictions. Both the bistro and our own health are balanced in a Schrödinger’s cat situation as we cannot assume that they’ve survived the pandemic and on-going restrictions, they are both present and simultaneously not.”
