“My series of paintings create a liminal space that tells a familial narrative through the malleability of time. I use the amalgamation of different frames and moments to create a tapestry of stories that describe the generational knowledge and relationship that continues through one’s family. I’m collaging different moments in time to create a scattered and suspended reality between each separate memory. The black and white reference photo is turned into a full-colour oil painting, while the contemporary photo sewn into the landscape is black and white. This flip of expectations, old vs new, is used to create its own space outside of expectations. Hung from the ceiling, freely able to move with the environment; referencing hung tapestry. Textiles have played a huge part in generational knowledge transfer, carrying stories, holding deep traditions, and healing relationships.”
Katarina HolboughCurrently living and working in Tkoronto, Ontario.A mixed media artist, working primarily with oil paints, Katarina creates a collaged image which tells a familial narrative. Graduating from Humber College’s Art Foundation Program in 2019, she is currently enrolled at OCAD University Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Her work is an abstract exploration into the non-tangible human experiences; exposing her own unstable, or incomplete experiences. Her latest work is looking at the impact of generational knowledge, and telling a story that amalgamates time into a malleable substance. With her work, Katarina aims to make sense of her own reality, and those around her.Website: KGHStudio.comInstagram: @Katarina.Holbrough
