An exploration into how the international aisle at the grocery store maps and demarcates “exoticism”, cultural stereotypes, and otherness. Sculpted and painted replicas of nostalgic cultural foods were photographed in Walmart aisles corresponding to their broader categories (sesame oil is oil, rice vinegar is vinegar, pocky is a snack), rather than all being separated to the international aisle. Is the delineation necessary, or does it only serve to remind us of our separateness?
