Gardener Typeface

2021
Beginning as a revival of an early metal-cut Belwe, Gardener is a work-in-progress typeface inspired by an old book on rosarian methods of the pruning, caring, and disease diagnoses of roses. A less conceptual and more form-oriented piece (though slightly related to my thesis work), it draws on transitional type characteristics while maintaining unique qualities of its own, like the deep bracketing of the serifs and the quirkier legs of the Q, R, and K. It is intended for larger display sizes, though I hope to work on a text-weight and, potentially, an italicized version in the future.
