This project highlights the endangered art practices of traditional Igbo art and design from mural and body motifs to handwoven fabrics. This project explores how these practices can be re-imagined in its modern-day contexts, applying crtitical thinking that challenges centre-peripheral thinking on how art & design is meant to be interpreted

“In my continuous journey decolonizing constructs that were not indigenous to my people, I decided to delve into the traditional art making practices of the Igbo people. This includes traditional handweaving practices and organic graphic communication, focusing on the pattern of the warrior hat,'Okpu Agu' and highlighting of the issue of indigenous handwoven fabrics like Akwete and Akwa Ocha and the use of indigenous graphic design motifs known as 'Uli' being endangered practices.”
