Self Eggpression is a 2D animation of a fictional dress-up game where the limitations of ones own gender are no-longer enforced. Starting in a traditional dress-up game setting the screen glitches out to reveal an alternative version where the limits of customization are non-existent. This film as strong transgender subtext with separation of ones physical appearance to perceived gender. norms.

“The choice of making this a first-person dress-up video game was to tap into that childhood nostalgia of playing games on the home computer or school PC. An experince well know to both trans and other children growing-up in the 2000s. A larger sense of what gender could mean to others. It turned very interesting as reading Kate Bornstein "Gender workbook" ended up sparking a larger theme for the rest of this project. Transformation and how personal of an experiences it truly is. With there reference to how the action of transitioning for trans individuals is like a butterfly hatching from their cocoon, growing into a bigger more prideful and true version of themselves. Changing ones appearance to better suite the individual is not a trans exclusive experience, it speaks to a larger notion of gender norms. ”
