Frills
Painting
"Frills" is part of my thesis series "After the Event " in which I explore a potential post-climate crisis on Earth, where giant plant women hybrids have replaced humans, and the world is thriving as Nature reclaims what's hers. I chose the locations I wished to reimagine based on places I've been in the city that I felt were recognizable or were part of my daily commute. I wanted a mix of popular and obscure locations. The monochrome green evokes nature and plants.
“The main road by the gas station stretches over half the waterfront. There’s an old grocery store at the end of it. The white lines in the parking lot have worn away, but it doesn’t matter. No one is parking. In the garden section, a patch of dirt enclosed by a metal fence, many of the potted plants have died. Overwatered by rain or burnt by the sun, but they’ve been replaced by a little forest. Vines have grown over the shopping carts and over the walls. They’ve blocked the automatic sliding doors. The clouds are rolling in again. Maybe it’ll rain soon.”
