“This bracelet is a statement piece that comments on how constructivism’s break fromtraditional jewellery aesthetics encourages jewellery designers to explore new materials andforms. According to Tate.org, constructivism is a movement that is purely technical masteryand organization of materials, using practical objects to create geometric, industriallyinfluenced pieces. The style of constructivism is quite innovative, focusing on building andscience rather than artistic expression, and even sought out to influence architecture.Through a constructivist approach, I looked at nature, the way plants extend their stems toreach the sunlight, or the extension of a bird’s wing, contracting their muscles to move theirfeathers up and down (Toughlittlebirds). I explored the topic of building and movement in mypiece by creating multiple extendable columns on a square base that can contract andextend based on the wearer's preference. The image of my piece is inspired by thearchitecture of the Doric columns on the Greek Temple at Segesta, Sicily.”
