I found this antique frame (1850-1900) at an antique store and wanted to restore it. OCADu Professor Nicole Collins even put me in contact with the frame conservator over at the AGO, after speaking to Julia Campbell-Such about the frame and general conservation techniques, I spent some time stripping off the oil gilded finish I came up with the idea to have a portrait of myself looking at the damaged corner. The plan was to have the painting sit as a placeholder for a piece that never came to be... I liked the piece too much. Here you see me getting dressed, glaring at the broken wood boring beetle eaten corner, the alligator texture you see was unintentional but it really works for the intentional unfinished/undressed nature of this piece
