Auto-Rec is a robot that uses a pneumatic loop to play a recorder according to keyboard input, resulting in one instrument acting as a controller for another.
“As an exploration of beginnings and ends, Auto-Rec combines knowledge gained from opposite ends of my educational career. New skills gained can replace old ones-but at what cost, and should they always?Auto-Rec uses 7 pneumatic cylinders which are driven by a series of solenoid valves which are controlled by a micro-controller on a custom PCB. The machine waits for a key to be pressed on the keyboard where it actuates the note's corresponding pneumatic cylinders before blowing air through the instrument using a vacuum pump.
