Unwanted and Admired
Photography
2021
Digital Photographs
Collected along the beaches of the Toronto Islands, each diptych is a presentation of artifacts, intentionally photographed and placed to exhibit their raw sculptural aesthetics. With a stockpile of collectables and a series of sequences, this work strives to examine ideals of nostalgia, modernism’s failures and explore the paradox of what determines value.
“What gives an object worth, appeal and value? Unwanted and Admired is a body of work that investigates object-to-object and object-to-space relationships. Collecting, quantifying and cataloguing a series of images, this work seeks and develops obscure connections between two sets of noticeably dissimilar objects. The series recasts modernism’s failures with these unmistakable connections presented like such.”
