Marriage of Horses and Rabbits

““Marriage of Horses and Rabbits” invokes parallels between the trauma of war and forced migration evoked through my parents' Chinese astrological animals as they’re depicted in mid-dance as opposing forces of an impending collision. This piece makes tangible the frenetic anxieties surrounding communication and family dynamics developed as a result of the engendered cultural shame encircling experiences of traditional familial patriarchies and marital conflict within my culture and its displacement here in Western society. I parallel the disjunction between my family members with the mythological violence of their yearning for escapism.”
