“This piece addresses the following symptoms, peculiar physical sensations (numbness, tingling, pins and needles, hot flashes). The imagery for this piece is derived from the shapes of human cells under a microscope. Three different alternate materials are set into this bracer, animal bone, a river rock, and a walnut shell. These different materials symbolize the different peculiar sensations that are experienced as each material has its own unique qualities. The rest of this piece is made using a method called free form crochet, this method of crochet has no set pattern and is built upon as you work. The randomness and unpredictability of this technique is meant to mimic the unpredictable nature of chronic symptoms that occur with no indication. The piece has three magnetic closures making it easy to put on and take off with a disability.”
