Children of the Moon

Painting
2023
Oil on canvas
48" x 60"
"Children of the Moon" is a painting that touches on my family history, on where I come from. In it, I was trying to capture the hopelessness, the despair, and the suffering of all migrants. I was thinking of my grandfather: He left Korea in a boat, in disguise, and lived as a refugee for many years. He was a private man and preferred not to talk about his personal sufferings; but I remember that he drank too much and he smoked too much, all of which eventually killed him at 61.
