Expressing my experience with dysphoria through the manipulation of self-portrait projections. (Excerpts.)

“In order to express and play with the representation of dysphoria, I projected images of myself on my apartment walls and then placed glassware and other translucent objects in the path of the projection. The resulting image is a smeared distortion of myself, my face fading into tendrils of light that cascade around the room. I then photographed the resulting projection. I really appreciated the beauty of this exercise, the distortion were equal parts mesmerising as they were grotesque. It ended up being a way to express a very painful emotion in way that felt inviting.”
