Garden of Thoughts

Mixed Media

Multi-media, for Camera Arts.(Spring 2021)

“Garden of Thoughts, 2021 is a multi-media piece that takes from many different sources of inspiration. From our family garden, to Monet’s Water Lilies, and to this season’s trendiest food and drink magazines, this piece combines painting, sculpture, and many techniques learned from Camera Arts class, such as tape transfer, acrylic medium transfer, transfer on fabric, and more. From planning to execution, this labour-intensive project took over 2 full weeks to complete, no shortcuts allowed. Every petal and leaf is hand shaped with wire, then perfectly fitted with a material, and then finally assembled into every flower that pops out at the viewer. The name of this piece comes from the abundance of thought and reflection that occurred during the detailed and repetitive process of creation. Though majority of the concept was planned beforehand, a lot of the creative process was improvised and innovated on-the-fly. There was more than just image transfer involved; all my ideas, skills, and surroundings were transferred/translated into my sketches, pieces of the artwork, then finally onto the canvas, which was the perfect ground for the flowers to bloom. ”
