Beyond accessibility, towards fall prevention

Service Design

Our Spatial Design Studio class published a collaborative recommendations book (shown to the right) to address falls prevention in a rehabilitation and long-term care hospital. Graphic designer Lawrence Ly created the layout. I was one of the final copy editors.

“Our Spatial Design Studio collaborated with a rehabilitation and long-term care hospital to address their increasing falls rate. Ethnographic research included observations within common spaces and interviews with key staff members. Based on themes extracted from qualitative research, small groups were formed. My team's theme was Beyond Accessibility. We aimed to make hospital hospitable, moving beyond accessibility towards incorporating principles of universal design. See the images to the right for sample content from our section.
