Alexander Graham Bell had tried to make his Sky Terrier, Trouve, to "talk". Having a father who was a renowned elocutionist, while his mother's hearing was deteriorating, Bell was inspired to explore methods of how to help people with deafness communicate vocally. Unfortunately, his attempt with Trouve was never successful - he would only bark and growl. However, Bell's effort was recognized, and his determination had a domino effect that led him to make the telephone.
