Insulin was discovered by UofT's Fred Banting and Charles Best in 1921, but this wouldn't be possible without Marjorie. Their experimentations costed the lives of several dogs until Dog #33 produced successful results - she was kept alive by insulin for approximately 70 days, until her clinically induced diabetes could no longer be treated. Dog #33 was named "Marjorie" posthumously.
