“Project Idea:The illusory truth: Want to make a lie seem true? Say it again, and again.(Dryfuss)In my opinion, the illusory truth is like virus: they sneak into someone’s head, and keep duplicating themselves, until they take over the original mind. According to Repeating Misinformation Doesn’t Make It True, But Does Make It More Likely, if a piece of information is repeated enough times, it might be regarded as truth even if it is not. This effect could still happen even if the person has already known the information was false. (Forbes)It makes me think of how marketing and media works: they duplicate the message that is beneficial to them, affect a group of people, then the message spreads out like virus. For example, in the beginning of a fashion trend, people might think it ugly or unreasonable. However, when brands start to do their ads, by sending their clothes and money to those media influencers, more and more people would perceive the information that this piece looks fashionable. And then, more and more people are drawn to this style, because they are told “this style is trendy and beautiful” too many times, so they believe it is truth, no matter how much they hate it in the beginning. The same idea could be applied to politics or daily news, which is a powerful yet toxic tool to control public’s mind.So I want to make up a story around how a lie become “truth”, by being repeated multiple times, which affect the character’s whole life. The style of my title sequence would be realistic video clips, because I love cinematography and want to explore a little.Resource:Dreyfuss, Emily. “Want to Make a Lie Seem True? Say It Again.
