Moulting

Sculpture
Moulting is the act of shedding an exoskeleton, but I wonder if that can be taken a step further. Can one shed memories, feelings, traumas?Through body casting, I have exfoliated the shared bond of profound mutual personal experience from my subjects in this series. After brushing in latex to create a positive, I am allowing myself to slip into their skin and lived experience by wearing their flesh. These pieces are a vessel of code shifting, masking, and the loneliness which comes with lack of contact during the Covid-19 pandemic. By molding the features of those in my circle who have imparted their lived experience on to me, I have made latex moults of their flesh cocoons to create a wearable prosthetic tapestry of lived experience.
